Waltham Forest Spitfires Basketball Club adopts and agree to operating under the England Basketball Child Protection Policy and Codes of Conduct.

It is of the utmost important to the Club that all visitors, staff members and children is aware that Waltham Forest Spitfires Basketball Club operate under a Child Protection Policy. The club takes child protection very seriously and all visitors, staff members and users of our sessions is expect to comply with the Child Protection Policy.

Waltham Forest Spitfires Basketball Club is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the well being of all its members. The club believes that it is important that members, coaches, administrators and parents associated with the club should, at all times, show respect and understanding for the safety and welfare of others. Therefore, members are encouraged to be open at all times and to share any concerns or complaints that they may have about any aspect of the club with any of the club’s Welfare Officers or Coaches.

All member & visitor to Waltham Forest Spitfires Basketball Club are expected to abide by the following Codes of Conduct for:

Waltham Forest Spitfires Basketball Club is committed to ensuring that equity is incorporated across all aspects of its development. In doing so it acknowledges and adopts the following Sport England definition of sports equity:

COACH CODE OF CONDUCT

• Ensure the safety of all of the players, coaches and volunteers involved.
• Treat everyone fairly within the context of the activity, regardless of gender, place of origin, colour, sexual orientation, religion, political belief or economic status.
• Ensure that the activity being undertaken is suitable for the age, experience, ability and fitness level of the athletes.
• Never punish or belittle a player for losing or making mistakes.
• Consistently display high personal standards and project a favourable image of the sport and of coaching.
• Refrain from prevarication or public criticism of players, officials and other coaches.
• Maintain appropriate relationships with all players, coaches, volunteers and officials.
• Never advocate or condone the use of alcohol, smoking, drugs and performance enhancing substances.
• Regularly seek ways of increasing professional development and self-awareness.
• Recognise and accept when to refer players to other coaches or sport specialists. Allow their goals to take precedence over your own.
• Recognize injuries to players and recommend them seeking the appropriate advice from a specialist. Consider the players’ future well being when making decisions regarding an injured individual’s ability to continue playing and/or training.

PLAYER CODE OF CONDUCT

• All members must play within the rules and respect officials and their decisions.
• All members must respect opponents.
• Members should keep to agreed timings for training and competitions or inform their coach or team manager if they are going to be late.
• Members must wear suitable kit for training and match sessions, as agreed with the coach/team manager.
• Members must pay any fees for training or events promptly.
• Members are not allowed to smoke on club premises or whilst representing the club at competitions.
• Members are not allowed to consume alcohol or drugs of any kind on the club premises or whilst representing the club.

OFFICIALS AND VOLUNTEERS CODE OF CONDUCT

The essence of good ethical conduct and practice is summarised below. All volunteers must:
• Consider the wellbeing and safety of participants before the development of performance.
• Develop an appropriate working relationship with performers, based on mutual trust and respect, without prevarication.
• Make sure all activities are appropriate to the age, ability and experience of those taking part
• Promote the positive aspects of the sport (eg fair play)
• Display consistently high standards of behaviour and appearance
• Follow all guidelines laid down by the national governing body and the club
• Hold the appropriate, valid qualifications and insurance cover
• Never exert undue influence over performers to obtain personal benefit or reward
• Never condone rule violations, rough play or the use of prohibitive substances
• Encourage performers to value their performances and not just results.

PARENTS AND GUARDIANS CODE OF CONDUCT

• Encourage your child to learn the rules and play within them.
• Discourage unfair play and arguing with officials.
• Help your child to recognise good performance, not just results.
• Never force your child to take part in sport.
• Set a good example by recognising fair play and applauding the good performances of all.
• Never punish or belittle a child for losing or making mistakes.
• Publicly accept Officials’ judgements.
• Support your child’s involvement and help them to enjoy their sport.
• Use correct and proper language at all times - No Swearing or Bad Language.
